                                                    Rights For Workers                                               

    This  document presents statements and specific items that may be considered in the creation of a Rights For Workers bill that would present a positive response to current efforts to promote "right to work - for less" laws.

    Everyone has a right to work but it is the obligation of the employer that this work be done only under conditions that will provide the worker with an income sufficient enough to provide for oneself and his/her family.

    Opponents of rtw legislation do not oppose a worker's right to work, but rather propose standards that will assure the Rights for Workers, all workers, whether participating or not in organized labor, or those conducting self employed services.

    Rights for Workers is based on Traditional American Values that each individual involved in the workforce has certain inalienable rights that must be promoted, not just by the government, but also by institutions and corporations that utilize their services so that the workers may obtain a just and reasonable remuneration.

    Rights for Workers assumes that there exists a mutual social and economic compact between employer and employee whereby both will mutually share in the economic and social benefits of their labors.

    Rights for Workers must include a worker's right to form, without fears of administrative oppression, the means of joining with fellow workers in presenting their work related issues to management in a collective bargaining negotiation setting.

    Rights for Workers is based on the fact that productive stability is assured when there is stability both in the workplace and in worker's family.

                                                              

    In order to achieve such mutual rewards for entrepreneurial efforts, the work force should be assured of receiving the following:

    - a wage that provides workers with the capability of meeting and sustaining personal and family economic responsibilities

    - reliable and consistent work hours that will allow employees to seek additional supplementary work if needed

    - worker access to job related training programs and other educational programs that will enhance worker skills and abilities

    - assurance that the employee will not be required to work uncompensated overtime hours under the implicit threat of work termination

    - contracted workers will be assured of working in a safe and health work setting that conforms to operational standards, and one in which workers are entitled to personal sick leave as a means for also preserving the health of fellow employees and their clients

    - worker hours will not reduced as a means of reducing health or other benefits to which they are entitled

    - worker job descriptions will not redefined under managerial titles to increase additional uncompensated work obligations excluding them from previously covered protections

    - worker rights will be respected and not be indiscriminately sub-contracted to cheaper labor sources

    - worker pensions once negotiated will be respected  and not renegotiated by future acquisitions or claims of bankruptcy

    - workers will be justly remunerated for accidents caused while in the performance of their work duties

    - workers will be protected from any form of wage fraud or the lack of appropriate compensation for services performed

    - workers will have the opportunity to freely participate in financial investments in the company that employs them
