Read My Lips....I Don't Pay Taxes

                                        Joe Brennan

Please Governor, say it isn't so.  The newspapers say that you don't pay your taxes. Could this be true? After all, a successful businessman like you must know how to properly fill out his tax forms. Perhaps this was just another "tax expenditure"? After all, Kentucky is known for giving out billions more in tax incentives than in bringing in Commonwealth generated revenue?

I noticed that you were concerned about the condition of the school system in Jefferson County, the same county where you live when not residing in your Frankfort mansion. It was my understanding that this school system is maintained in part by property and other local taxes, perhaps this is why it is now in need of additional financial support. In all honesty, it does not seem as if our mayor does any better in meeting his own financial obligations. However, shelling out our impoverished tax dollars to finance a Corporate-chartered school company, one like Hal Heiner once attempted, does not seem to be a genuinely good way to spend our tax dollars. By the way, what is Mr. Heiner doing these days?

It seems as if you are interested in reforming our tax system? That's a good idea, but not the regressive one I assume you have in mind. You might consult with Representative Jim Wayne and his associates. They have been proposing meaningful reforms for years. Somehow there was opposition to their suggestions and our budget was balanced by shifting existing line items from one category, perhaps from public retirement funds, to another, who knows? One thing for certain, please don't consult with Arthur Laffer, he has done enough damage to our national budget, and most recently the Kansas revenue system.

Like President Obama, in all honesty you inherited a fiscal mess. Blame it on whomever we are now actively competing with Puerto Rico for the biggest fiscal fiasco under the American flag. Like the island Commonwealth, our own Commonwealth will not be resurrected by bonds alone. In concluding, I must ask that if at all possible please Governor, PAY YOUR TAXES.
